Well hello there - i do believe
i just listened to 2 punk rock masterpieces in a row -

yeah they are old

Mission of Burma - Vs.
incredible album - i'm just listening to the final track right now
Progress = anyway these guys were great
and this album is a masterpiece
i982

ps - i actually saw this band 1981
shitty little club
called the vogue
at first and virginia
downtown(?)Seattle
i guess it is downtown now
back in '81 - not exactly

Prick (the other Masterpiece i just listened to)
theMelvins
one of my favorite bands
seen them many many times
love em to death
giv Prick a listen -
i dare you
it's 1993
but i still think it's a
Punk Rock Masterpiece

but - speaking of
Punk Rock Bands there are a few we
need to mention

The Ramones -
saw them too - 1977
december
christmas time in Portland - Oregon
@ the Paramount theatre
downtown portland
it was a catch a rising star concert
tix - 2 bucks each -
that was cheap
there were about 600 of us
down in the orchestra section
and there was a tiny little pit
the Paramount seats 3 thousand
one of the best shows i've eveer seen
thy were just so fkn focused
just played their songs one after another
no chit chat wtih the audience
nothing but the Songs
Blew my Mind
saw em 3-4 more times over the years
they never disappointed
but the first time was best
they finished their set with
Surfer Bird
an "obscure" hit single from "66 or "67"
i knew the song well & loved it
i grew up on it
so they totally stole my heart that night

the Talking Heads
yeah i think so
they were a punk rock band
for sure - absolutely
& totally brilliant as well
just like all the bands i mention here
Brilliant - transcendent actually

iggy pop & the stooges
never saw them
but they seem to be punk rock gods

the red hot chili Peppers
the original line-up
saw them in "87
@ Moore theatre - downtown seattle
they were opening for "X"
i'd never heard of the red hot chili peppers
up till then -
i was with a friend
we got right in front in the pit
blew my mind - they brought it so Hard
very impressive
and the guitar player was right
in front of us on the
skinny little stage

So - YOUR TURN
WHO DID I LEAVE OUT
?????????????????????

All this talk of the gov doing deals with DUP has got me listening to Stiff Little Fingers again.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qLo7z50Tt2g

I never really understood the politics, but I still love that sound.

- I think I've only ever seen one punk band live, March To The Grave, a local band that I don't think ever got far past support band level, but are still plugging away 40 years on. You've gotta respect that. Smile

...sms i neglected to mention
theClash - London calling
that albumtook over my life for a while in 1979

and did cause me to get the earlier albums as well
all in all - thrilling stuff for me

hey fogg - your march to the grave band reminds me of
theMelvins - they've been going hard at it since 1984
i'll stop amd remain open for your inputs to fill in he blanks

great punk rock bands....

...so - my seattle experience leaves me with 2 bands

Soundgarden & Nirvana

both i think were punk rock bands at the outset
Huge success followed eventually and they morphed into
something else perhaps -

saw soundgarden 2-3 times before they got famous
and twice they drove me out of the building
because they were just too fkn Loud
i loved the energy - the music - just wasn't accepting ear plugs at that point in my career

Nirvana - well - what can you say
never saw them pre teen spirit
but i loved them to death when i finally came around and gave
them a chance

From a female perspective

Fugazi also one of all my all time faves but you can't beat a bit of Kathleen Hanna

Great input. I own both mission of Burma, vs and fugazi 13 somgs and red medicine on vinyl. Great great Music. Two trems on vs is mesmerizing, very off the bat drums.

The ramones are such fun. Very poppy by todays standards with harmonising choruses and la la la's.

Pj Harvey is pretty punk to me.
Another woman - patti Smith, saw her on Big festival stage some years ago. She had that edge, nerves.

Neil young, not for the rockin in a free world or Hey Hey my my, but for tonights the night and others.

Deerhoof is another band ive seen many times, and while perhaps not punk music, they do have a special kind of punk attitude!
I love How they seem to be really enjoying themselves on stage. Talked to the drummer for a bit, very sweet and enthusiastic person.

Gotta eat now, will come back with more

... hi jakob - ohh man i jus listened to the
stiff little fingers
aren't they fkn awesome....

so glad you've got Vs. it's a revelation
there is so much good stuff on that album
and they are hard to find
out of print and all that

i love neil young
never thought to drop him in this punk rock band post
but you are right
neil young & crazy horse

gotta admit i've seen neil young over a dozen times
'74 was the first time
it was csny at a huge day on the green show
oakland baseball stadium
they played a few songs and then
neil got to take off with his guitar
and it just filled that baseball stadium
i already loved neil's first couple of albums
and buffalo springfield had a couple of hits that everyone heard on the radio
i even was lucky enough to catch a show in seattle
gawd knows what year that was - 82-84,
but the first half of the show (no opening band)
was the "tron" experience
then a break
and he came out and did Neil & the shocking pinks
playing piano mostly - kinda rock-a-billy
but all good

as much as i love Pearl jam - uhh - they aren't/ werenot
punk rock - they rocked hard but they had something else going on

Saw him in 2008, Neil that is, he played three hours and did a 17 min version of all along the watchtower, blew my brains out. The Best part was that it followed immediately agter a my bloody valentine set, so my ears were already bleeding at that point and my tastebuds were completely wiped clean.

Thanks Tin!

One of my favourite songs from a local (my hometown in Spain) punk rock band, more of a slow song this one but very beautiful nonetheless
