Now I'm not quite so sure.

common sense doesnt always prevail, this week a recently elected TD said he doesn't agree with climate change because only God controls the weather. years ago he objected to the golden eagle being reintroduced to kerry because they eat babies.

Though it's been an ugly and divisive campaign, now's the time for unity and healing. Congratulations Steve, your *£$#&~£# won.

In the end Trump won because Hillary just had too much baggage and that is what done for her in the end. I still think if the Democrats had a half decent candidate they would have beaten Trump. Hillary or Bernie was just a terrible choice. What Trump had going for him was being a political outsider. People have grown tired of party politics. Hillary was seen as part of the problem and as for Bernie, Americans would never elect a socialist. That is the bottom line.

If you look at a lot of Trump's views they are not that different from Hillary. In previous years he was labeled a Democrat and made big donations to her campaigns and the Clinton foundation over the years. Trump is more to the right than she is but she is right of centre. As you have to be to get elected. And it is where I stand on a lot of issues. I don't agree with Hillary on a number of her social polices but I agree mostly with her on the military and the economy. But her biggest problem was not her policies it was her credibility. I'm no fan of Trump but it is about getting the public to believe and about understanding what it is they want. And that is what he did. As an example if you look at what we have here - As leader of the labour party Corbyn is totally unelectable. So if you have a two horse race it doesn't make it that difficult for the other horse to win.

I'd not say Hillary's the least credible. She's not completely without flaws, but she's clearly the more credible candidate in my opinion.

What worked against her, I think, is an innate sexist mindset. America - when push comes to shove - would rather be led by a grotesque man than a great woman.

I was listening to the radio yesterday, and Lord Ashcroft spoke about 'shy Trumpers', aside from tickling my infantile SOH it did make me realise that Trump (and Farage) represent views that many hold but (edit!) don't support publicly.

Across fora and social media, I've got a handle on 500 or so views, maybe. I've only seen just two people openly support Trump. Steve, and one other fella. Clearly millions of people are on the same page, but you're one of the few to at least be honest. I guess I have to respect you for that.

oh come on. None of them are credible and the whole election was one big failing of modern civilisation from every single aspect. The campaigns, the candidates, the media, the followers, the voters, the bystanders.

None are innocent.

I totally agree. The debates were terrible and the coverage was a dumbing down of politics on a level that left a bad taste.

But that's not really true is it?

It is far too easy to throw that accusation around when people don't get the result they want. In the end Hillary got more votes than Trump, so that argument doesn't really hold up does it. When Hillary won the Democratic nomination 75% of African Americans voted for her. You might say that they didn't vote for Bernie because they thought he was too old but the reality is that they voted for her because they felt she was the better candidate.

In terms of her political experience Hillary beats Trump hands down but people have become sick and tired of career politicians that tell you one thing and do another. That was something that Hillary couldn't shake off and the ironic thing is that it was Bernie Sanders that put major doubts in peoples minds regarding her credibility. Trump only continued the attack on her character that Bernie had been doing for months.

Trump did not have that baggage. He could attack her record but she could only attack him on personal issues and at the end of the day a lot of people don't care about all of that. They want a president who will get the job done. Bill Clinton had many problems and faced a number of investigations but he got a second term because he was good at his job. So although he was surrounded by scandal, people put that to one side and judged him on his record and not as a person.

One thing I do know is that the Republicans had better candidates than Trump but he won and that's what happens when you let the public vote Laughing
